During the past decade alone, development of downtown Reno has seen a shift from sprawling gaming complexes to smaller, mostly independent restaurants, shops and art houses. While gambling remains a key draw for visitors and natives, it's far from the only show in town.
The area that makes up downtown Reno runs from Mill Street north to Seventh Street and Arlington Avenue eastward to Lake Street (see map below). Downtown Reno is easily accessible off I-80.
Virginia Street, referred to as "Main Street," is where most of the
action happens in downtown Reno. It's home to the famous Reno Arch
as well as several of the major casino resorts, including Atlantis Resort Casino, Eldorado Hotel Casino, Peppermill Hotel Casino and Silver Legacy Resort and Casino.
Reno's Riverwalk District is a hip, trendy area within downtown
Reno. It's nestled between Arlington Avenue and Lake Street along the
Truckee River and is dotted with boutique shops, restaurants and
popular watering holes. It's here where you'll find the Sierra Tap
House, Se7en on West, Beaujolais
Bistro, Java Jungle and eco-friendly shop La Terre
Verte.
In addition to the Reno Arch, other downtown attractions include
the National
Automobile Museum, the Nevada Museum of Art, Fleischmann
Planetarium and the Wingfield Park Amphitheater.
