Much like the area it serves, The Reno-Tahoe International Airport is unique in that it's located in the heart of things, near I-80 and US395. Unlike other, out-of-the-way airports, Reno-Tahoe International sits just minutes from downtown Reno and is less than an hour from outdoor mecca Lake Tahoe.
 Reno-Tahoe International Airport
The airport has come a long way since it opened nearly 80 years ago. Originally named Hubbard Field for Eddie Hubbard of Boeing, Reno-Tahoe International Airport was purchased by the city of Reno in 1953, and Terminal Building was completed in time for the Squaw Valley Winter Olympics in 1960.
As the gateway to Reno and Lake Tahoe, The Reno-Tahoe International Airport, or RTIA, sees roughly 14,000 passengers daily. In 2007, the airport logged five million total passengers. RTIA covers over 1,450 acres and sits at an elevation of 4,415 feet.
If flying into Reno-Tahoe International Airport to visit Lake Tahoe, there are several transportation options. In addition to renting a car, there's the South Tahoe Express, which provides year-round, non-stop service from the airport to South Lake Tahoe. Also, many of the casinos along Tahoe's South Shore offer complimentary shuttles to and from the airport.
